“Love can be spread from within you to the outside, not from the outside to within you.” ~ P.S. Jagadeesh Kumar This week’s quote makes an important point about love. The idea that love is something we need to find, something that is given to us by another person, is deeply ingrained in our culture. We are taught from an early age that there is someone out there who will fill in all our missing pieces and make us feel whole and complete. This idea is based on the false assumption that we are not whole and complete already. What if love isn’t something you get from someone else? What if love is something already inside you, waiting to be unlocked?
Think about the last time you genuinely felt love. Where did you feel it? Chances are you experienced a feeling of warmth inside your chest and a feeling of expansion inside your heart. The point is, that love you felt did not come to you from an external source, it arose from within. Your own heart is the source of all the love that you will ever experience in this lifetime. Love is not a commodity that can be obtained, it is more of a harmonious inner state that can be cultivated. Those who search for love don’t realize that they already have it. To experience love right now, all you really need to do is breathe. By releasing the tension in your throat, chest and abdomen, you create space inside your body. Keep breathing deeply and an expansive feeling of love will inevitably fill in the spaces where the tension used to be. When you understand that your heart is the true source of love, it really takes the pressure off. No longer must you wait for love, or search for love, or be afraid of losing it. Love is infinite and eternal- it always has been, and it always will be. Simply by opening your heart, you allow this love to flow freely throughout your being.
